GETTING FRESH is a food show concept and pilot for 3D television produced by Mindwater Productions and Avalanche 3D Entertainment. As co-creator, writer and host, this project is very dear to my heart. It focuses on local foods and the myriad ways the "slow foods movement" is beneficial for the health of our bodies, communities and planet. In each episode, our challenge is to create a meal based entirely on ingredients grown within a 25 mi. radius, packed with local flavor and peppered with adventure, of course. The show highlights the often dirty and always entertaining world behind the scenes of food production, while showcasing the small growers and characters that feed America. We are currently in discussions with 3D networks.Culinary Arts, Film, Writing2012 -
I love doing recipe development! Whether it is the creation of a menu with a specific nutritional slant, such as the omega-3 and vitamin E packed menu designed for eye health shown here in "In the Kitchen" (South Bay Fit, Fall 2012), seasonal recipe development based on local goodies, or simply something that tastes darn good, I'll pull together something delicious, approachable and beautiful. And I'll style it for your shoot, too.Culinary Arts, Journalism, Writing2012 -
In Vitis Veritas is a wine blog I created when I moved to LA a few years ago. It was a total passion project and I'm planning on picking it up again on a new blog platform soon. In Vitis Veritas is about the feel of a wine. The blog title, a play on the Latin expression "In Wine is Truth," is intended to speak to something deeper that can be found through wine--not merely the lessening of inhibitions to inspire truth but wine as a connection with the earth, as an expression of nature and the truths that can be found there with reflection.
The original blog, with additional entries, is still live here: http://thewhole9.com/blogs/invitisveritas/Journalism, Writing2012 -
For about a year I wrote a feel-good community column called From the Market for Patch.com about the Manhattan Beach Farmers Market in, of course, Manhattan Beach, CA. Each week I talked, ate, flexed my amateur food photography muscles, and came up with (or borrowed) seasonal recipes featuring local produce. Here is a selection of columns and some of my favorite farmers market food shots.
